BEST has combined the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens and the American College of Surgeons’ Stop the Bleed courses to deliver this Instructor-led, in-classroom learning with hands-on practice Local Options Course. This course teaches students how to protect themselves and others from exposure to blood and blood-containing materials; how to recognize common first aid emergencies, call for help, and respond with lifesaving first aid skills; and how to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly and effectively to control it with three quick techniques.

Who is this course for?

• BEST’s Local Options Course is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogens training to meet job, regulatory, or licensing requirements. Always confirm with your employer which format is accepted.

• Those who prefer all learning in person and immediate Instructor feedback

• Anyone who is interested in learning these lifesaving skills for injuries, bleeding control, and personal protection or anyone who simply wants to be ready to respond in case of an emergency.

• Anyone with a reasonable chance of coming into contact with bloodborne pathogens who need to meet OSHA bloodborne pathogens training requirements when paired with site-specific instruction such as

  • Correctional Officers

  • Childcare workers

  • Security guards

  • Maintenance workers

  • School personnel

  • Hotel housekeepers

  • Health and fitness club staff

  • Tattoo artists

• Personnel who need to meet First Aid job, regulatory, or licensing requirements. Please contact your employer to ensure that you are selecting the correct course.

Course Length

Approximately 4 hours

What does this course teach?

It trains participants first aid basics for the most common first aid emergencies, including:

• How to recognize first aid emergencies, how to call for help, and how to perform lifesaving skills

• How to protect themselves and others from being exposed to blood or blood-containing materials, act quickly and safely, clean the area that has blood or blood-containing materials and what to do if an accidental exposure were to occur

• How to recognize life-threatening bleeding and act quickly and effectively to control it with three quick techniques that will empower the participant to make a life-or-death difference when a bleeding emergency happens.
